Starting salaries of human resource assistants will increase an average of 5.3 percent in 2008. Average starting salaries for human resource assistants will range between $27,250 to $37,500. This is among the findings of the recently released OfficeTeam 2008 Salary Guide, which reports on starting salaries for administrative staff.

OfficeTeam found that overall, administrative professionals can expect an average salary increase of 3.2 percent nationally. OfficeTeam attributes this increase to "continued demand for highly skilled administrative and office support employees, business expansion, and a competitive hiring environment." The manufacturing, financial services and healthcare industries are showing a particularly strong demand for administrative professionals, according to the Guide's findings.

"A competitive hiring environment has led to increased demand for administrative professionals with advanced skills and experience," said OfficeTeam's executive director, Diane Domeyer. "Companies are offering higher compensation and other benefits to attract highly skilled candidates -- especially those who possess strong industry knowledge and are a good fit with the organization."

A press release announcing the Salary Guide also reported that senior executive assistants can expect base compensation to rise 3.7 percent (a range of $40,500 to $56,750). Salary increases for receptionists (3.1 percent), customer service/call center reps (3 percent) and data entry specialists (2.7 percent) fell below the 3.2 percent overall average for administrative professionals. Entry-level administrative assistants will see an average increase of 2.4 percent in their starting salary.

The 2008 Salary Guide is based on "an analysis of the thousands of job placements" managed by OfficeTeam's North American offices.
