 Legal Analysis

Federal recordkeeping requirements are extensive and often repetitive, requiring employers to record the same information for various statutes. Since there are specific recordkeeping mandates for employers in particular industries or occupations, employers in niche industries, or those that perform public contracts or do any work for the federal government, should find out what recordkeeping requirements apply to them. There also are numerous state laws that require recordkeeping. Failure to keep proper records or making false statements in records is punishable by large fines or imprisonment, or both.
