A new summertime flick asks if Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell, and Kevin Spacey could be “Horrible Bosses.” The premise of this film may have some bad bosses sweating—and HR pros and others cringing.
The film, to open in July, casts the stars as bosses so heinous that their employees plot to kill them or hire a paid assassin to do the job for them.
In a period with horrible examples of workplace violence, it’s no wonder the plot has been inactive for over 5 years.
However, producers believe the hot new screenwriting duo of John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein can make the plot palatable—and even funny (it’s a comedy, not a thriller).
“Most people dream and want to kill their bosses, but nobody ever really does it,” Goldstein told the Wall Street Journal. “So we had to structure the story so that [murder] was the only solution.”
The pair admits that keeping this topic credible was a challenge, but told the WSJ that the ability to bounce ideas off each other helped.
According to media sources, Aniston plays a dentist who sexually harasses her employee. Of course, Spacey has honed playing nasty characters into an art form.
Now we’ll see if moviegoers find the topic acceptable—and ticket-worthy.
