A group representing the telemarketing industry has filed a lawsuit to block the national do-not-call list, saying it would cost two million jobs and would violate their rights under
the First Amendment, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
About 18 percent of workers said they had been laid off at some point during the
years 2000-2003, according to a new study from Rutgers University and the University
of Connecticut.
The number of Americans filing initial unemployment claims fell by a seasonally
adjusted 29,000 to 386,000 last week, the lowest level of new claims in five
months, the Department of Labor announced.
More Connecticut employers are utilizing a program in the state that pays partial unemployment benefits to employees working reduced schedules, the Hartford
Courant reports.
