Circuit City has announced that it has laid off thousands of employees who the company says were paid well above the market-based salary range for their role.



U.S. Airways Seeks 23 Percent Cut in Pay from Workers 
U.S. Airways has asked a bankruptcy judge to impose a temporary 23 percent cut in pay for the airline's union workers, the Associated Press reports.



High-Tech Employment Dropped 8 Percent in 2002 
The U.S. high-tech industry lost 540,000 jobs in 2002, dropping from 6.5 million to 6.0 million, according to a study by American Electronics Association.



Unemployment Rate Fell to 6 Percent in October 
Payroll employment rose by 126,000 in October, following a similar increase in September, the Labor Department reported today. The unemployment rate dropped slightly to 6 percent.



Unemployment Steady, Employers Add 57,000 Jobs 
Employers added 57,000 jobs in September and the unemployment rate remained at 6.1 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported.



Mass Layoffs Leave 134,000 Jobless 
Employers shed nearly 134,000 jobs in mass layoffs in August in 1,258 mass layoff actions, as measured by new filings for unemployment insurance benefits during the month, according to the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics.



Poll: U.S. Workers Still Nervous About Job Security 
About 48 percent of those polled said they are anxious to somewhat concerned about being laid off.



Unemployment Drops to 6.2 Percent 
Jobless rate dips in July, but firms shed 44,000 jobs while 470,000 discouraged workers stopped looking for work.
