A Note to Readers


The Governmental Accountability Office (GAO) recently conducted an undercover investigation it posed as complainants and filed 10 common wage and hour complaints with the Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division (WHD). The GAO found that WHD successfully investigated only 1 of the 10 fictitious cases. Read about it in the news.

Meanwhile, a recent survey conducted among over 400 small businesses found that one third had conducted layoffs between October 2008 and February 2009--and another 25 percent anticipated that they would conduct layoffs by June. Learn more about the recession’s impact on white-collar small businesses.
