'08 Events and Their '09 Impact

As 2008 draws to a close, a number of events have taken place that could greatly impact Human Resources departments in 2009--the new FMLA regs released last month and effective January 16; the election of Barack Obama (who has expressed support for bills that would expand workplace rights for employees and unions), who will be sworn in as president January 20; and an economy that has worsened considerably throughout the year with no signs of recovery, at least in the short term.
