Wal-Mart Tackling 'Healthcare Crisis' from Both Without and Within
|
With 1.3 million full- and part-time U.S. associates, Wal-Mart stands out as the giant among retailers. The company's size affords it the opportunity to effect change wherever it chooses to pull its substantial clout. While the company believes its benefits package has become increasingly valuable to its employees as a result of the changes, it recognizes that the healthcare problem is much larger than one company, no matter its size. In February 2007, Wal-Mart and other major American corporations decided to act.

Last week, we reported on the comments by an expert from the WAGE Project, an organization established to end inequality in pay, who believed that in order to close the "gender wage gap," more women needed to be educated about negotiating their starting salary.
So we decided to ask you whether, in your experience, men were more aggressive than women when it came to negotiating salary. Even we didn't anticipate that your response to last week's poll would be so definitive.
Meanwhile, in this week's news, presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has proposed a plan that would allow Americans to open "personal" 401(k) accounts in lieu of, or in addition to, those that are available through their employers. Read about her plan, then let us know what you think of her idea in this week's poll.
Also, be sure to see if yours is among the six states that have recently announced annual adjustments to their minimum wages for inflation.
