Employers hire part-time employees for numerous reasons ranging from attracting skilled workers who can's or won't work full-time and accommodating the needs of a disabled worker to cost cutting. There is no legal definition of part-time, but there are numerous legal requirements that impact part-time employees, including benefit requirements set by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).
