Over $20 million for in unemployment insurance modernization incentive funds was certified for release to the state of Utah, according to the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). The funds come from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which is set to provide $7 billion in UI modernization incentive payments to states that include certain eligibility provisions in their UI programs.
To qualify Utah updated its laws to allow workers to use recent earnings to qualify for benefits. The Utah Department of Workforce Services can use the funds to pay unemployment benefits. Depending on legislature, the department may be able to use the funds for administering its unemployment insurance program or delivering employment services.
Each state can qualify for a share of those funds by showing that its law includes those provisions.
