Knowles Security provides armed and unarmed security services for car lots, shopping malls, and apartment complexes. The employees, most of whom were Hispanic, were post and patrol guards, and all were paid at least minimum wage for all hours worked.

Under the terms of the consent judgment, the firm agreed to make an initial payment of $25,423 and pay the remainder of the back wages in equal monthly installments over 24 months. The investigation covered October 25, 2002 through October 25, 2004.

In settling the complaint, the company denied any wrongdoing.
