The minimum wage in New Jersey and Maine will increase next month.
In Maine, the minimum wage will rise from $6.35 per hour to $6.50 per hour
effective October 1, 2005.
An employer may credit an employee's tips up to a maximum of 50 percent of
the minimum hourly wage if the employer gives the employee advance notice. The
employer must be able to show that the employee receives at least the minimum
hourly wage when direct wages and the tip credit are combined. If the employee
shows that the actual tips received were less than the tip credit, the employer
must increase the direct wages by the difference.
In New Jersey, the minimum wage will rise to $6.15 an hour on October 1
and to $7.15 an hour on October 1, 2006.
