rand Union refrigerator mechanic was denied compensation for overtime payments by a federal appeals court in New York. The repairman claimed seven to eight hours a day of travel time, either between Grand Union stores, or his home on Long Island, N. Y.

The court ruled that the travel was "a ... normal occurrence" for his job. This continues a trend in the narrowing of what types of travel time can earn overtime pay. Bus drivers in Albuquerque, for example, were awarded overtime pay while they were shuttled by the city between drop-off points, according to a U.S. appeals court in Denver. But time spent driving to and from work, however, was not eligible for overtime.
