Does everyone in the organization understand how to utilize the medical insurance benefits that are provided to them by the organization in the most effective and efficient way? The answer to this question in most organizations is, “probably not.” Benefit programs are usually very complex and they change frequently, making it difficult for most of us to understand and utilize them. Providing training and counseling for employees to be better purchasers of medical services can be of benefit to everyone.
Consider sponsoring programs for your employees to help them learn how to utilize their medical insurance benefits more efficiently. You could hold classes for employees and their spouses to educate them about the benefits and how they could use them more effectively. Invite your benefit representatives as well as your insurance providers to make the presentations and answer employees’ questions. You might also have similar programs especially designed for retirees and/or those soon approaching retirement. As an organization, medical benefits represent a significant portion of your expenses. Helping maximize the return on your investment makes sense not only from a business standpoint but from an employee relations perspective as well.
By better understanding how to use these benefits, employees may be able to receive higher quality medical services at the most reasonable cost. The more each of us can help contain the spiraling cost of medical services, the more we can be assured that we will be able to continue to have the coverage we need for our families and ourselves in the future.
