Work can make you fat, according to many of the 2,000 respondents in a CareerBuilder.com survey conducted in June. Forty-six percent reported a weight gain since starting their current jobs. The survey results showed that 1 in 5 workers say they are more than 10 pounds heavier and 1 in 10 say they have put on more than 20 pounds!
Rosemary Haefner, vice president of HR for CareerBuilder.com, shares a few tips to help workers control their weight:
- Use your commute. If you drive to work, park farther away from the office. If you take public transportation, get off the bus or train a stop or two early and walk the rest of the distance.
- Take the stairs instead of the elevator to burn more calories.
- Pack your own lunch to control portions and enjoy healthier food.
- Put in face time. Visit your co-workers in their offices when you need to talk instead of using e-mail or the telephone.
