Some Workers Fear Losing Job over Taking Vacation

Eighty-four percent of workers said they plan to take a vacation this year, according to the online survey, which included more than 2,500 respondents.

Twenty-seven percent of workers say they plan to work while on vacation this year, down from the 33 who said so in 2005. This year, 33 percent of men said they expect to work on projects or check in with the office while on vacation, compared with 25 percent of women.

"Work can be demanding, but taking it all with you just brings the stress to a new location," says Rosemary Haefner, vice president of human resources at "Cell phones, pagers and other electronic devices can create an e-leash of sorts.
